We are using tuna steaks for this recipe but feel free to use any fish you like. Tuna works well as it is a fairly firm fish.
As with all wot dishes we need lots of onions and have them chopped as small as you can.
7 – 10 med onions
5 tuna steaks
1 cup olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic
1/4 teaspoon mekelesha
2 tablespoon kibe
4 tablespoon berbere
Start by sealing your fish in a pan with a little oil, fry on both sides for 2 mins and set aside.
Now in a dry hot pot add the onions and cook for 5 mins.
Now add oil and cook for 4 mins.
Add the garlic, salt and berbers, now cook for 6 mins, it is important that you keep stirring all the time to cook but not burn the berbere.
Add the butter and again cook for 4 mins.
Now add 2 or 3 cups of cold water, stir, cover and cook for 7 mins.
Add the mekelesha and now we are ready to add the fish.
Now simmer for 10 – 15 mins and serve.
